The work of an image editor is demanding; he must live up to the quality of the Artists he represents and that of his audience, which often consists of discerning collectors and sometimes includes museums or art bookstores. Through his artistic sensibility and in-depth knowledge of the comic book creators he works with, he manages to capture their visual world as faithfully as possible. Formats, paper types, and printing methods are chosen based on each collection and each type of image. How does he choose the images? It’s all a matter of perspective. The images in a series must be consistent with one another; they are linked by the quality and content of the artwork. Christian Collin then adds her personal touch by giving free rein to her imagination (one-of-a-kind pieces, prints on tracing paper, hand-enhanced images, portfolios, box sets, etc.). As printing techniques and media evolve, she is constantly innovating by proposing new projects to her artists. PIGMENT PRINTING
What is pigment printing? It is a direct inkjet digital printing technique that uses specific, very high-quality pigment inks designed to be lightfast and durable over time. When combined with extremely pure art papers, this technique guarantees extraordinary print results with brilliant colors, deep blacks, perfect rendering of contrasts and details, and impressive image depth. Pigment ink printing is used for high-end art editions, exhibitions, and museum collections.
Screen Printing
What is screen printing? Screen printing involves passing ink through the mesh of a screen (originally made of silk) using a squeegee to apply it to the substrate to be printed. The colors are applied in successive passes, one after the other. One of the advantages of screen printing is the ability to vary the ink deposit by using screen mesh of varying fineness. Screen printing produces a thick ink deposit, which ensures intense, long-lasting color and excellent opacity.
THE lithography
What is a " lithography "? It is a printing process that involves using a press to transfer a text, drawing, or outline—made with oil-based ink or a grease pencil on a limestone block—onto paper. To produce the print, the stone is first moistened. Because it is porous, it retains water.
Ink is then applied, which will adhere to the drawn areas and will be repelled by the moisture elsewhere. Once the stone is sufficiently saturated with ink, a sheet of paper is placed on top and pressed down. This produces a uniform print on the sheet of paper. For color prints, the same process is repeated for each color to be included in the artwork. In fact, the same stone is rinsed, scraped, sanded, and reused.
OFFSET ART PRINTING
What is offset art printing? It is a mechanical printing process that uses plates to transfer an image onto a blanket cylinder (or offset cylinder) and then print it onto paper. In offset printing, the colors of the original image are first broken down into four primary colors: cyan, magenta, yellow, and black—a process known as “four-color process.” The colors are applied successively by the cylinders to the sheet of paper. Offset printing is used for standard-quality printing and the production of medium- to large-volume runs.
PHOTOTYPY
What is phototype printing? It is a flat-bed printing process using inked gelatin. A layer of bichromate gelatin spread on a glass plate is exposed under a negative. Phototype printing allows for continuous, non-screen-printed reproduction. It is used for small print runs (facsimiles of manuscripts, high-quality reproductions of drawings and engravings).
